WATSONVILLE - A 20-year-old suspected gang member was arrested Wednesday evening on suspicion of carrying a loaded gun in a car with open containers of alcohol.
The gun seizure marked the 10th of the year for the Santa Cruz County Gang Task Force.
About 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, members of the Gang Task Force stopped Desmond Martinez for a vehicle code violation near Green Valley Road and Behler Road in Watsonville, said Santa Cruz County sheriff's Sgt. Stefan Fish.
Authorities smelled marijuana and saw open containers of alcohol in the vehicle, Fish said. A search of the vehicle yielded a loaded revolver and ammunition, authorities said.
Martinez, believed to be an active gang member, was arrested on suspicion of gang participation and carrying a loaded, concealed weapon in a vehicle, according to the Gang Task Force.
