ARTESIA - The coroner's office on Sunday identified the woman stuck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Artesia.

She was Carolina Estrella, 81, of Artesia, coroner's Lt. Renee Grand Pre said.

The victim, now identified as Estrella, was walking east in a crosswalk at the intersection of Norwalk Boulevard and Droxford Street, when she was hit at about 4:40 a.m. Saturday, said sheriff's Sgt. Diane Hecht.

The driver failed to stop and fled south on Norwalk Boulevard, Hecht said.

The vehicle was described as red, with substantial damage to the front end and windshield. No other details about the car were immediately available, Hecht said.
