Salinas police said they arrested a suspect in six recent armed robberies Thursday after tracing him to Sacramento.

Sgt. Jeffery Gibson said Joe Navarette Jr., 27, was put under surveillance and arrested Thursday without incident after a traffic stop by Sacramento police.

He was lodged in the Monterey County Jail on six robbery counts and related weapons and false imprisonment charges, Gibson said.

Navarette is a Salinas native who was living in the Sacramento area after being released from prison, he said.

"He was laying low (in Sacramento) and coming down here and doing robberies," Gibson said.

Navarette is a suspect in two robberies at the Santa Cruz Market, 19 E. Romie Lane, and other stick-ups at a Mountain Mike's Pizza, a Little Caesars Pizza, Bozzos Liquor on East Laurel Drive and another market, he said.
