MALIBU (CNS) - A 3-year-old boy and a relative, a woman in her 50s, were struck and injured by a hit-and-run driver on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu and deputies were still searching for the car and driver who drove away, authorities said today.

Their conditions were listed as critical, but not life threatening, said Lt. Patrick Mathers of the sheriff's Malibu/Lost Hills station.

The crash happened about 8:30 p.m. Friday in the 25500 block of PCH, said sheriff's Lt. Robert Wiard, watch commander at the Malibu/Lost Hills station. That stretch of road is next to a beach and seafood restaurant, and is often congested with cars parking along the beach and pedestrians braving 50 mile per hour traffic.

The incident shut down PCH in both directions for about 90 minutes Friday, said sheriff's Sgt. James Braden.

Both victims were conscious and breathing when they were airlifted to UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center in Westwood, but their specific conditions were not available, Braden said.

Mathers described the suspect's vehicle as a ``white or silver vehicle."
