SUN VALLEY - An early morning blaze ripped through a Sun Valley church, causing damage but no injuries.
The blaze broke out at the Bethel Christian Reformed Church, at 10725 W. Penrose St., at 1:35 a.m. It took 100 firefighters to douse the flames in about an hour.
Firefighters saw flames burning through the roof of a building located behind a church and entered the structure, but within minutes they went into defensive mode, battling the blaze from the exterior, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Ron Myers said.
Firefighters returned to "offensive interior fire attack" about 30 minutes later, putting out the flames in the structure's attic, he said.
Firefighters were then seen removing musical instruments from the structure, handing them over to church officials, according to an On Scene Video camera crew.
No injuries were reported, Myers said. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
