Bayside Montessori offers infant care

Bayside Montessori Learning Center is adding infant care to its program for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Families interested in learning more about the center are invited to an open house from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, at 127 Midhill Road, Martinez.

The director will conduct a tour of the school, describe the philosophy of the program and answer questions.

Events include Martinez Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting with Mayor Rob Schroder.

There will be a petting zoo, balloons, face painting and a gymnastic/dance class demonstration. Students will also present a musical performance, and refreshments will be served.

'Drive One 4 UR School' for CPHS

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at 2285 Diamond Blvd., Concord, residents can test drive a new 2010 Ford Taurus, Fusion Hybrid, Milan or MKT as part of the Ford and Lincoln Mercury Drive One 4 UR School program.

For each person that test drives a qualifying vehicle, Ford Motor Company and Future Ford of Concord will donate $20 to College Park.

Each test drive will last approximately 5 minutes and is limited to one test drive per household.

Participants must be 18 or older and have a valid driver's license.

Boosters

The Ygnacio Valley instrumental music boosters will hold their second annual luau from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Shadelands Ranch Historical Museum, 2660 Ygnacio Valley Road, Walnut Creek. The fundraiser benefits students and the school's music program.

The event will have a Hawaiian-themed buffet of Kalua pork, grilled chicken, white rice, macaroni and green salads, fruit and dessert.

The Tiki bar will serve Hawaiian beverages. Entertainment includes dancers, singers and musicians.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students in grades K-12. Tickets can be purchased from any YVHS music student or by using PayPal at www.yvmusic.org.

Eat out and help Alhambra High

Residents can support Alhambra High School student body and athletics by eating at Fresh Choice Restaurant at Sunvalley mall in Concord. Fresh Choice will donate a percentage of sales for diners eating from 4 to 9 p.m. Sept. 29 who present fliers at the time of purchase.

And Chavinda Mexican Restaurant, 514 Center Ave., Martinez, will donate a percentage of sales for diners eating in or take out from 5-8 p.m. Sept. 25 and Oct. 30. No fliers are needed. Annual Musicians Showcase for CP

The College Park instrumental music program will hold the ninth annual Musicians Showcase from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at the Crowne Plaza, 45 John Glenn Drive, Concord.

The event includes dinner, live and silent auctions and entertainment by all six of the award-winning College Park High School music ensembles.

Collect school supplies for needy

Local teens are encouraged to collect school supplies and drop them off at a Staples store through Sept. 19, for the second annual Do Something 101 school supply drive, through Staples and DoSomething.org.

Staples customers can also participate by donating $1 at any Staples store. All school supplies and donations will benefit local teens in need.

Preschool has openings for fall

Loma Vista Parent Cooperative Preschool has openings for its prekindergarten/combo class which meets three days a week. There is also space available for the preschool class for 2-year-olds, which meets two days a week.

Registration open for co-op classes

Mt. Diablo Adult Education/Parent Education Department is accepting registration for its Parent Education Cooperative pre-K and Preschool classes available for parents of children ages 2-5.
