CONCORD — A man initially believed to have tried to get a high school student in his truck Thursday was simply asking for a date, Concord police said today.
The female student, who is 18 and not 17 as was first reported, spoke to the man and took his phone number and did not feel threatened, Lt. Darrell Graham said.
But when the girl got home from Summit High School, within Concord High School, she told her mother. The mother called the school district, which sent out a telephone warning to all parents within the district.
The girl was walking home from school about 2 p.m. when the man drove up alongside her. He got out of his pickup truck and took her hand. Graham said the student did not know the man, but she did take his phone number.
Police spoke to him Friday, and no charges will be filed, Graham said.
