PITTSBURG — Police are seeking the public's help in identifying a man found shot to death Tuesday morning near a city park.
Police were called to Marina Walk Park on Sixth Street about 3 a.m. after getting reports of shots fired and a car speeding away from the area, Lt. Brian Addington said.
Officers arrived to find a man with at least one gunshot wound. He died at the scene. Addington said there were no other victims.
Investigators and the coroner's office are working to identify the man, who was not carrying identification, Addington said. Police plan to have an artist produce a sketch of the man's face for public release in hopes of eliciting information about his identity, he said.
Addington described the victim as a white man in his 20s, 6 feet 2 inches tall with blond hair, hazel eyes and a slender build.
Police at the scene said the man was dressed in dark slacks and a white shirt, as if on his way to or from work.
The death marks the city's eighth homicide of the year, compared with three for all of 2008. Additional details about the circumstances of the shooting were not available.
