PITTSBURG — Contra Costa firefighters have contained a one-alarm fire that burned a garage and an attic at a Pittsburg home this afternoon.
The fire in the 1000 block of Ventura Drive was reported at about 4:15 p.m. Contra Costa Fire District Battalion Chief Alan Hartford said two people were home at the time, but made it outside without injuries.
When firefighters arrived the garage and attic space above it were fully engulfed. Much of the attic and roof were eventually destroyed, Hartford said. The fire was contained at about 4:50 p.m.
The cause remained under investigation, but Hartford said the fire was accidental and started inside the garage. It caused $100,000 worth of damage, he estimated. The American Red Cross was called in to provide temporary shelter to three adults who live at the home.
