DANVILLE — Prosecutors have filed charges against two men arrested Saturday after being caught with drugs and loaded guns.
One of the men ran across Interstate 680 before being arrested.
The other managed to escape, but returned to the area the same morning, most likely to collect a gun and a baggie of crystal methamphetamine that he hid as he was being chased, Danville police Sgt. Dan Hoffman said.
The suspects were identified as 23-year-old Michael Ramirez, of Oak Grove, and 21-year-old Jullien Oakley, of Sacramento.
Hoffman said about 4 a.m. Saturday he was patrolling near the Best Western Inn, in the 800 block of Camino Ramon, when he saw Ramirez leaving a hotel room with a woman.
Hoffman said he knew a warrant had been issued for Ramirez's arrest, so he approached and searched the suspect.
Ramirez had a loaded 9 mm semi-automatic handgun in a back pocket of his pants and fought with Hoffman before escaping, Hoffman said.
"I got the gun but he ran away," he said.
The suspect ran to a nearby gas station and hopped a fence onto the freeway.
He ran across all lanes to the other side and was arrested by responding officers as he ran along the southbound shoulder.
Meanwhile, the woman who was with Ramirez ran back to the hotel room and told Oakley and a second woman to run.
As Oakley was running away, other officers who had arrived at the hotel saw him drop a baggie — found
Oakley ran to a nearby neighborhood where he was able to evade capture. But at 6 a.m. the following day, other police officers saw him pull up to the hotel in a taxi and arrested him. Investigators believe he wanted to retrieve the gun and the drugs.
Ramirez was charged with possessing a firearm with a prior felony conviction and resisting arrest.
Oakley was charged with possessing a concealed loaded firearm with a prior conviction for the same crime and possessing a controlled substance along with a firearm.
The women with the suspects at the hotel were not arrested, Hoffman said.
