APTOS -- A girl celebrating her 15th birthday was attacked with a box cutter during a fight with two other female teenagers early Saturday morning, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office.
The victim was treated by American Medical Response paramedics and went to the hospital later that day.
The 15-year-old was at her birthday party near Seacliff State Beach when she was walking back to a friend's house near Santa Clara and Center avenues, deputy April Skalland said. Just before 2 a.m., a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old woman she knew confronted her. They began to fight. One of the attackers had a box cutter and slashed the 15-year-old's abdomen, according to deputies.
Skalland said deputies arrived and arrested the 18-year-old, Baily Agnello of Aptos, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, giving a false name to police and misdemeanor vandalism. She was linked to a Toyota pickup tire that was slashed near the scene, Skalland said.
The 17-year-old was taken to Juvenile Hall on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
