PLEASANTON -- Ernie Scherer III, convicted of murdering his parents at their Castlewood Country Club home, will be the focus of this Saturday's "48 Hours Mystery" on CBS, according to the network.
Scherer, 33, was sentenced in May 2011 to two terms of life in prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted of murdering his parents in their Pleasanton home in March 2008.
The show airs at 10 p.m. and will feature interviews with Scherer's ex-wife Robyn and his sister Catherine, according to the network.
Ernie Scherer Jr., 60, and Charlene Abendroth, 57, were bludgeoned with a baseball bat and their necks and wrists were slashed. Prosecutors said Scherer killed them to gain control of more than $1 million in inheritance, which he needed to pay off gambling debts.
Scherer, a professional poker player, was arrested in February 2009, 11 months after the killings.
Last year Dateline NBC aired an episode on the murders.
