OAKLAND -- A man fatally shot Sunday night while in a minivan near the East Oakland hills was identified Monday as 25-year-old Vernon Morgan.
Police said Morgan's most recent address appears to be in Oakland, but he also had addresses in Antioch and possibly Brentwood.
The shooting happened about 5:25 p.m. Sunday on Kuhnle Avenue near Mountain Boulevard not far from the Seminary Avenue offramp from westbound Interstate 580.
Authorities said Morgan was shot from outside the minivan, which was a rental vehicle.
Another person in the vehicle, whom police would not identify and who was not injured, drove to the 7100 block of Sunkist Drive where police were notified. Morgan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police don't have a motive yet for the shooting and no arrests have been made.
The killing was Oakland's 56th homicide of the year. Last year at this time there were 59 homicides in Oakland.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $15,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the killer. Anyone with information may call police at 510-238-3821 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572 or 510-777-3211.
