BAY POINT, Calif.—Dozens of illegal weapons have been seized during a search of a home in an unincorporated area of Contra Costa County, authorities said.

The discovery of 49 illegal submachine guns, shotguns, rifles and handguns in a Bay View home came after a man flagged down deputies on a street Thursday night and said he had been hit over the head by a man who fled to the home, Assistant Sheriff Donny Gordon told the Contra Costa Times (http://bit.ly/PBqQfi).

When deputies went to the home to speak the man who lived in the house, identified as 50-year-old Mike Kestner, they found a loaded Uzi submachine gun on a bed in a back bedroom, Gordon said.

After a search warrant was obtained, deputies and members of a task force that includes local police and officials from the state Department of Justice found the additional guns during a search of the home.

Kestner was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and illegal possession of an assault weapon. He was being held on $50,000 bail.

It wasn't immediately known if Kestner has an attorney.

Three other adults in the home at the time of time were released after questioning, while a child in the home was released to his grandmother, Gordon said.

The victim of the assault that prompted the search was not seriously hurt.
