Investigators are seeking 18-year-old Daniel Castano of Bay Point in connection with the Thursday shooting death of a 17-year-old Martinez boy.

BAY POINT -- An 18-year-old man investigators say is armed and dangerous is being sought in connection with the Thursday slaying of a Martinez teenager.

Contra Costa County Sheriff's office homicide detectives are seeking Daniel Castano, 18, of Bay Point, in connection with the shooting death of 17-year-old Fernando Gonzalez. The teen was sitting in a car at Marina Road and Inlet Drive about 2 p.m. when he was shot multiple times in the chest, police said. He was pronounced dead at a hospital about three hours after the shooting.

Police don't have a motive but don't believe the shooting is gang-related.

The deadly neighborhood assault, described by investigators as "brazen," forced a shelter-in-place order for several hours for residents in the Shore Acres area while police searched unsuccessfully for the shooter. The shooting also put three schools and a day care center on lockdown.

Anyone with any information on this case or the whereabouts of Castano should call Sheriff's Dispatch at 925-646-2441. Anonymous tips can also be left on the Sheriff's tip line at 1-866-846-3592.
