SAN LEANDRO -- An art teacher was arrested Halloween night for allegedly masturbating in public and trying to get the attention of trick-or-treaters passing by his car.

At about 10:30 p.m., Alameda County Sheriff's Deputies found Carlos Tellez in his car on the corner of Mateo Street and Green Court in unincorporated San Leandro.

According to deputies, Tellez was masturbating inside his 1998 Mazda Protégé while trying to get the attention of passing children who were trick-or-treating.

Tellez allegedly had his pants unzipped and pulled down to mid-thigh while his shirt was pulled up to his mid-chest, according to deputies.

Tellez, who worked as an art teacher at the Livermore Valley Charter Preparatory in Livermore, was initially detained by a passer-by who caught him in the act.

Deputies arrested Tellez for indecent exposure but has since posted bail, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit is actively seeking the public's help in identifying other possible witnesses or victims.
