BRENTWOOD -- Adding her own musical talents to treasured holiday favorites, Brentwood's Staci Frenes has put together a new compilation album that she plans to feature at an upcoming holiday fundraiser for the less fortunate.
In coordination with the owners of Stories Bookshop in Brentwood, Frenes is offering a holiday concert of her music, with the entrance fee being a new children's book, which will then be donated to homeless shelters and foster homes.
"This will be a great way for me to help a local bookstore and get some great kids this holiday," Frenes said.
Being a book lover herself, Frenes understands how hard it is to open a bookstore in this day and age. After meeting Stories A Family Owned Bookshop's owner Rochelle Olmos, Frenes wanted to do something to encourage business in her hometown bookstore.
"It is a brave thing to do to open a bookstore in this day and age," Frenes said.
She also hopes that by having people donate books to the event that giving the books to the children in need it will encourage a lifelong love of reading.
"Books can be comforting in uncertain times," she said. "And I've always felt there's something magical about opening up a brand new book and entering an imaginary world. We want to give that experience to children staying in our local shelters this Christmas season."
Olmos is delighted to help sponsor an event that helps the children.
"We often forget there are displaced children staying in local shelters over the holidays," Olmos said. "So when Staci approached me with the idea of a holiday fundraiser to provide children with new books, I jumped right on it."
Frenes has been a singer and songwriter for more than two years. During that time she has released eight folk-pop albums. She hosts concerts all over the country and her music has major network shows such as "The Biggest Loser," "America's Next Top Model," "One Life To Live," "All My Children," "Nashville" and "Summerland," as well as in nationally released feature films.
Her song "Miracle Baby" has been licensed heavily by hospitals, charity organizations and small businesses. National-level corporations such as The Gap and American Airlines have also featured Frenes' music.
Her Christmas album, "Wise Men and Angels," features Frenes' talents with an acoustic flare for longtime favorites like "What Child is this?," "O Little Town of Bethlehem" and "Silent Night."
Another new album, "Everything You Love Comes Alive," offers 10 songs that Frenes believes is some of her best works yet.
