A 44-year-old man died Friday afternoon after he accidentally shot himself in the lower abdomen, a Sonoma County sheriff's sergeant said.
The shooting happened around 11:20 a.m. in the 2000 block of Silk Road south of Windsor in unincorporated Sonoma County near the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport.
The victim's friends, who were in the residence at the time of the shooting, were driving him to a hospital, but they flagged down deputies in the 6000 block of Windsor Road, Sgt. Carlos Basurto said.
The victim was then taken by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital where he died, Basurto said.
Detectives determined there was no foul play and the wound was self-inflicted and seems to be accidental, Basurto said. The weapon was recovered at the scene and the victim's name is being withheld until his next of kin are notified, Basurto said.
