Gang suspected in school raids: Sheriff's deputies and Brentwood Police were studying evidence this week to decide whether the burglary of the Legion post room Saturday night may have had some connection with the wave of preholiday burglaries which has been sweeping the county.
Brentwood and Knightsen school were broken into Dec. 14, and similar break-ins tool place in Byron school Saturday night, and Oakley school Sunday night. The John Muir school in Antioch was also burglarized Sunday night, as was a drive-in restaurant. As far as can be checked, the burglars got trifling hauls for their trouble, usually a small amount of cash.
Deputy sheriff Dick Cakebread, who investigated the burglaries in Oakley and Byron, and who has been working with Antioch police, believe the burglaries are the work of one person, or the same gang. In every case, the method of operation was the same, a screwdriver being used to get past locked doors or window.

BI's Brady elected local flotilla commander of the 10-4 chapter USCG: Bethel Island resident Donald Brady was elected the 1988 Flotilla Commander for the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 10-4 Bethel Island at the November meeting.
Brady was sworn in first on Dec. 4, at the USCG Division X Auxiliary meeting, and was again sworn in a second time at Flotilla 10-4's Change-of-Watch Party last week where he received his new command from Earle "Billy" Graham, the 1987 flotilla commander.
"My goal is to try to live up to the leadership the Flotilla has enjoyed over the years. Few people in the community know that we have one of the most outstanding flotillas in Division X," the new commander said.
A seven-year veteran of the USCG Auxiliary, Brady has been the communications officer in 1985, publications officer from 1981 through 1987, and Flotilla-vice commander in 1987. As publication officer, Brady has produced the Flotilla's monthly newsletter, The Sounding Board.
When not busy with USCG Auxiliary business, Brady is involved in the Park Marina Condominium Home Owners Association. Brady has lived at Willow Park Marina since 1976.
