The Richard Parker

Inspired by "Life of Pi"

Serves 1

1/2 ounce egg white (about 1/2 an egg white)

1 3/4 ounces Bombay gin

1/2 ounce yellow chartreuse

1 1/4 ounce lemon grass syrup, cold (see recipe below)

1 ounce lime juice

Salt, for the glass rim

12 drops Angostura bitters

1. Dry shake the egg white, i.e., shake it in a cocktail mixer without ice.

2. Add ice, the gin, chartreuse, lemon grass syrup and lime. Shake and strain into a cosmo or martini glass with a salted rim.

3. For the tiger stripes, add the bitters in 3 rows of 4 drops each. Draw lines through them to make stripes across the top.

Lemon Grass Syrup

2 stalks lemon grass

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

Pound the lemon grass with a rolling pin, then roughly chop it. Place it in a pot with the sugar and water. Bring to a boil, then remove from heat and let steep for 30 minutes. Strain and refrigerate.
