"American Idol" has already sucked up four hours of our lives this week, and now it needs 90 minutes tonight just to reveal 10 measly names? C'mon, this is as outrageous as Mariah Carey's cleavage. Someone needs to tell Fox that this show isn't the ratings juggernaut it used to be.

So what's taking up so much time? All of the lucky contestants who advance will sing a "victory" song, according to host Ryan Seacrest. Oh, and Ryan has to make a series of awkward runs between the stage and some kind of tucked-away chamber where the contestants are being sequestered. At least he's getting in his cardio.

But we're going to zip right past him, and all the padding, and get straight to the point. Because that's what they taught us to do in journalism school before this recapping craze took hold.

So here are the Top 10 finalists as voted through by you, America, along with their victory songs (in the order they were announced):

And now just a few notes on the night:

  • If any guy has reason to complain, it's probably Vincent Powell. No, he didn't have a great performance Wednesday, but on the whole, he's been better than either Paul or Lazaro. And both of the latter singers were very wobbly on their victory songs. Time for a recount?

  • As for the women, the five who were voted through seem to be just about right.

  • But how many of the 10 have a legitimate shot at winning the crown worn by the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Phillip Phillips? Four? Possibly five?

  • If we had to pick a final two based on what we saw this week, we'll pit Kree against Candice. Of course, a lot can happen between now and when the confetti falls.

  • If this overwhelming trend toward ballads continues, this is going to be one snoozy season. Please, people, pick up the pace. This is "American Idol," not "The Walking Dead."

  • The Zoanette Johnson era is, mercifully, over. By sending her home, the voters did what the judges should have done weeks ago.

  • Ryan said almost 39 million votes were cast, which is about 10 million more than at this time last year. That's a little hard to believe considering fewer people are watching "Idol." Of course, that new app system that allows users to quickly assign as many as 50 votes might have something to do with it.
