VICTORVILLE -- An A.B. 109 probationer is behind bars after he reportedly sexually assaulted a 14-year-old boy, San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials said Friday.

Demauri Lee Hughes, 24, was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga late Thursday night on suspicion of attempted sodomy of a person under the age of 16 and violating the terms of his probation, according to booking records.

Deputies Scott Abernathy and Rick Runstrom were called out to an area near Batson and Hesperia roads for a 14-year-old who had reportedly been sexually assaulted.

After interviewing the teen, deputies learned the boy had met and befriended an man in his 20s. The man, later identified as Hughes, allegedly tried to sexually assault the boy.

Officials found out Hughes was on probation through Prison Realignment for a commercial burglary conviction.

Investigators with help from San Bernardino County Probation officers located Hughes through Hughes' GPS monitor later that night near Batson and Hesperia roads and took him into custody.

Records show Hughes has an extensive criminal record in San Bernardino County.

Hughes has been arrested at least twice for burglary. His last burglary conviction took place on March 25 of this year. Records also indicate Hughes has been arrested and convicted of violating the terms of his Ab 109 probation in May of last year. However, he has no arrests or convictions for any sex crime, officials said.
