Four students at Carondelet High School in Concord received Jefferson Awards for their outstanding community service, including Alexandria Reynolds, class of 2016, for continuous service; and Isabel Bustamante, class of 2013; Shelby Smith, class of 2014; and Hayley Miller, class of 2015, for special project. Alexandria visits hospitals, convalescent homes and senior living facilities and plays her violin for residents. Isabel formed "Gifts of Joy," which collects and distributes new toys and clothing to children of farm workers in Turlock every December. Hayley delivers her homemade soup every Wednesday to local seniors unable to leave their homes with her "Soup for Seniors" project. And Shelby brought her idea for Trashing Malaria to the Carondelet community for Lent, which helped provide more than 400 lifesaving nets for African families.
