Nearly 100 firefighters battled the blaze Thursday afternoon at what was the American Cable Recycling Plant in Schuylkill County. Officials say the plant closed three years ago.
Firefighters arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke pouring from the large one-story building, with heavy fire inside.
Delano Township Fire Chief Paul Kuropatsky says the building is in an area without fire hydrants. Firefighters and tanker trucks from Schuylkill and surrounding counties responded to the scene.
The site, which was metal refining company Agmet Corp. before it became American Cable Recycling, is on the federal Superfund list.
Kuropatsky says no hazardous materials were inside the structure.
State police fire marshals are being called in to investigate.
