Charlie Hunnam has dropped out of the film version of "Fifty Shades of Grey," according to the New York Times.
This is where I don't make a joke about him finally getting around to reading it.
The British actor apparently has a scheduling conflict. Universal Pictures released a statement saying Hunnam's "immersive TV schedule," which includes a starring role on "Sons of Anarchy" on FX, would not allow him to "adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey."
The Hollywood Reporter said Hunnam was "overwhelmed" by the amount of attention he received from the news media and fans of E.L. James' best-selling novel regarding his casting. Hunnam's casting as the wealthy Christian Grey, opposite Dakota Johnson as Anastacia Steele, was announced last month.
Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, shooting is scheduled to begin next month in Vancouver, British Columbia.
