Tom Cruise remains close to his daughter Suri despite his hectic film schedule and being divorced from her mother, according to papers filed Tuesday in the actor's defamation lawsuit against Bauer Publishing Co.
Cruise is suing Bauer over a pair of 2012 stories in Life & Style and In Touch magazines claiming he "abandoned" his daughter due to film shoots overseas.
"I have in no way cut Suri out of my life -- whether physically, emotionally, financially or otherwise," Cruise wrote, according to the Associated Press. Despite filming back-to-back movies that year, Cruise said he spoke to his daughter nearly every day and got frequent updates from her mother, actress Katie Holmes.
That's pretty good. Some people live with their kids full-time and don't talk to them every day.
Cruise's lawyers want a judge to order Bauer to declare it had no sources to support its accusations.
Bauer's lawyers cite files they gave Cruise's legal team describing the magazines' reporting and statements from confidential sources, saying Cruise missed Suri's first day of school and could have flown to New York to see her.
Cruise filed the suit in October 2012. His lawyer Bert Fields called the accusation that Cruise abandoned Suri a "vicious lie."
