MORAGA -- The Campolindo High girls basketball team survived a late surge from No. 6 seeded Petaluma, earning a 54-49 win Friday in the North Coast Section Division III quarterfinals thanks to some big shots from a freshman starter.
Brooke Panfili led No. 3 Campolindo with 20 points and hit a trio of 3-pointers, all at crucial times.
She buried her first at the halftime buzzer to give the Cougars (17-10) a 30-24 lead at the break. Her next long-distance shots came in the fourth quarter as Petaluma was mounting a comeback.
Petaluma (19-11) had closed the gap to 50-45 when Panfili's shot with 1:30 to play helped put away the Trojans for good. Her 3-pointers were Campolindo's only field goals of the fourth quarter.
Petaluma's Joelle Krist used her smooth jump shot to lead all scorers with 20 points.
Campolindo clinches a spot in the NorCal Division III tournament for the second straight year with its NCS quarterfinal win.
Dublin 62, American 35: The fifth-seeded Gaels (18-9) received a game-high 21 points from Milan Moses in their Division II quarterfinal victory over the 13th-seeded Eagles (14-14).
The Gaels led 15-4 at the end of the first quarter behind seven points from Jojuan Carrington. But the Eagles went on a 7-0 run to start the second quarter to make the game close.
However, an 11-1 run in the final 2 minutes, 16 seconds of the first half gave Dublin a 30-16 halftime lead. Milan had six of her eight first-half points in the run. Dublin led by double digits throughout the second half.
In addition to Moses, Tiaja Andrews (12 points), Julyana Amante (11) and Carrington (11) also scored in double figures. American was paced in scoring by Tylore Bell with 15 points.
