• "American Idol" (8 p.m., Fox): The swan song begins, as the reality series that gave us Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Phillip Phillips and more kicks off its 15th and final season. First up: The audition rounds.

  • People's Choice Awards (9 p.m., CBS): More than 72 million votes were cast for tonight's award show. We're guessing that Taylor Swift probably got a few of them.

  • "American Crime" (10 p.m., ABC): One of last year's best broadcast dramas returns with a lot of the same faces (Felicity Huffman, Timothy Hutton, Regina King) but in different roles and a new story. This time the case involves a sexual assault pegged to students at a private high school in Indianapolis. Along the way, the 10-episode anthology series touches upon sensitive topics such as class and sexual orientation.
