CLAYTON -- One person died and two others were injured after a high-speed chase in Clayton Friday morning ended in a crash on Marsh Creek Road, officials said.
Around 8 a.m., Contra Costa County Sheriff's deputies were following up on a call about a suspicious car near Walnut Boulevard and Camino Diablo in Brentwood. When the deputies found the car, a Lexus, they learned that it had been recently stolen out of Concord, according to Jimmy Lee with the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office.
One of the deputies tried to approach the driver, but he fled and led deputies on a roughly 7-mile chase before crashing into a tree near the Clayton Regency Mobile Home Park, located at 15711 Marsh Creek Road.
Two passengers in the Lexus were extricated from the car and flown to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where they are listed in critical condition, Lee said.
The driver, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Marsh Creek Road was reopened around 4:30 p.m.
The incident is being jointly investigated by the Office of the Sheriff and Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
