Cal basketball coach Mike Montgomery said Monday that junior power forward Harper Kamp, who has not played this season after undergoing offseason knee surgery, likely will be redshirted.

Asked if the decision has been made, Montgomery said, "Not yet, we're close. I think he's leaning toward not playing. He had a pretty tough year last year, and I think he's a little bit leery of having that same experience again.''

Kamp, who figured to compete for a starting job this season, underwent a lateral release procedure on his right knee last April 1 to correct a kneecap tilt that caused painful grinding and cartilage damage.

Kamp, who had surgery on the same knee the previous offseason, still hasn't recovered sufficiently from the most recent operation.

Montgomery also said he expects senior small forward Theo Robertson, who has missed four games with a foot injury, to play soon.
