UNIVERSAL CITY -- Sean Mannion set an Oregon State freshman record with 3,328 passing yards last season, but the Foothill High-Pleasanton graduate is being challenged by junior Cody Vaz of Lodi.
"Right now we have two quarterbacks we feel we can win with," Riley said. "It needs to be defined that Sean is our starting quarterback but I'm really excited by the progress of Cody."
Riley said Mannion went to work immediately after the season was over to improve his game.
"If work ethic and desire plus talent have anything to do with improving, then he's showed all the ingredients to make a good jump," Riley said.
