Cal swept a doubleheader from No. 23 Arkansas on Sunday, 4-3 and 2-1 at Evans Diamond.

In the nightcap, Brian Celsi scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning when third baseman Clark Eagan's throw hit the runner in the back of the helmet during a run-down. Celsi was pinch-running for Brenden Farney, who went 3 for 3.

In the opener, Devon Rodriguez had a two-run double and bases-loaded walk for Cal (10-5).

Freshman Cal Quantrill turned in a dominant 126-pitch effort to blank Kansas and lead Stanford (7-8) to a 1-0 win. Alex Dunlap had an RBI single in the fourth.

Penn State rallied for a 9-6 victory over host Saint Mary's (7-8).

  • Stanford hired Duane Akina as its secondary coach, according to a source. Akina most recently was the defensive backs coach at Texas but wasn't retained by new coach Charlie Strong.

  • James Madison beat Cal 3-0, its second shutout win over the Bears at the Hawaii Softball Spring Fling in Honolulu. Cal (9-10) had just four hits.

    Saint Mary's beat Belmont 6-0 and Brown 5-3 to finish the Loyola Marymount Invitational 5-1. Lujane Mussadi earned both wins in the circle to go 4-0 in Los Angeles.

  • Cal played its first sand volleyball match ever, falling 4-1 at Pacific.

  • The No. 2 Cal rugby team (14-0, 5-0 PAC) routed No. 13 Cal Poly 95-14, as captain Seamus Kelly and Harry Adolphus had hat tricks.
