The De La Salle High football team will open its season against Jesuit-Carmichael at Cal's Memorial Stadium on Friday.

Kickoff will be at 8 p.m., and the game will be televised by ESPN2.

The game had been scheduled at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth. But Levi's Stadium tickets won't be accepted at the gate. Please contact Ticketmaster or the 49ers for information on refunds.

Swimming

Olympic champion Katie Ledecky broke the world record in the 400-meter freestyle for the second time in two weeks at the Pan Pacific championships in Gold Coast, Australia. The 17-year-old won in 3 minutes, 58.37 seconds, shaving .49 seconds from the mark she set Aug. 9 at the U.S. Championships. It was her fourth gold medal of the Pan Pac meet, and the Stanford commit is a lock in the 1,500 free if she swims in it as scheduled Sunday. Cal's Missy Franklin was part of the U.S.'s silver-medal winning team in the 400 free relay and placed fourth in the 200 backstroke.

Michael Phelps claimed the first significant win of his comeback by taking the men's 100 butterfly in 51.29 seconds. He edged longtime rival Ryan Lochte (51.67). Tyler Clary won the men's 200 backstroke in 1:54.91, while Cal's Ryan Murphy was fourth in 1:56.17. Phelps, Lochte and former Cal stars Nathan Adrian and Anthony Ervin placed second in the men's 400 free relay in 3:13.36, as the U.S. trailed only Australia (3:12.80).

College baseball

Stanford coach Mark Marquess announced the addition of three assistants -- Brock Ungricht, Jon Karcich and Eric Smith -- finalizing the staff after the departure of Ryan Garko.

Water polo

Ex-Cal star John Mann had two goals, but Team USA lost to Hungary 7-5 in the semifinals of the FINA World Cup in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

Horse racing

Terrys Tom Cat rallied to beat Yahoo Tahoe by a head in the $31,740 allowance feature at Golden Gate Fields. Ridden by Ricardo Gonzalez, Terrys Tom Cat ran one mile in 1:38.89 for the 3-year-old's second victory in 16 starts. Trained by William E. Morey, Terrys Tom Cat paid $5.20 as the 8-to-5 favorite in a scratch-shortened field of four.
