On Feb. 11, subscriptions go on sale for Opera San Jose's 30th season, opening Sept. 7-22 at the California Theatre with "Falstaff" by Giuseppe Verdi -- his final opera, and a comic one, based on Shakespeare's "The Merry Wives of Windsor."

The season continues Nov. 16-Dec. 1 with a family production for the holidays: Engelbert Humperdinck's "Hansel and Gretel." The company's third production will be Puccini's "Madama Butterfly," Feb. 15-March 2, 2014, while Mozart's "Don Giovanni," conducted by George Cleve, will close the season, April 19-May 4, 2014.

The 30th season will be the last for general director Irene Dalis, who founded the company in 1984.
