Alexis Jean Moore, a 2012 graduate of Ygnacio Valley High School in Concord, won a $5,000 academic award from the California Scholarship Federation.
She competed in the Central Coast Region for the federation's Seymour Award, and was selected the winner April 21, at the statewide conference held at Ascencion Solorsano Middle School in Gilroy.
Moore is Ygnacio Valley's CSF chapter vice president, a Link Crew commissioner, involved in Interact Club, is in leadership and is captain of the color guard.
The California Scholarship Federation represents 64,000 students and awards $121,250 each year to 50 CSF student members who must maintain at 3.5 GPA in core academic subjects.
Steven Sola of Concord was named the Arkansas Tech University Student Activities Board executive of the year during the 2012 Student Leadership Recognition Banquet on April 23. Sola served as vice president of SAB during the 2011-2012 academic year.
Sunny Shergill, a 2012 graduate of Clayton Valley High School in Concord, has been named one of 10 Link Crew Scholarship winners in the United States and Canada.
Link Crew creates a system of support using upperclassmen as student mentors who are trained to be Link Crew leaders and positive role models to lead high school orientations, and academic and social follow-ups for freshmen. The
"Link Crew hasn't only changed me, but it changed our entire school climate, and it has helped a lot of people. I believe that everyone should have an opportunity to take on a leadership position, and to do something meaningful, and Link Crew takes care of both," he said.
Shergill plans to attend Diablo Valley College for one year than transfer to University of Alberta to study criminal justice and computer forensics.
