SAN JOSE -- San Jose State junior linebacker Vince Buhagiar was named the Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
In the Spartans' 40-20 victory over Colorado State on Saturday, the Clayton Valley High graduate had a team-high and career-high 11 tackles, nine of which were solo. He also had a sack and forced and recovered a fumble.
The fumble recovery came in the fourth quarter with SJSU holding a 33-20 lead and set up a 51-yard touchdown pass from David Fales to Chandler Jones that put the game out of reach.
Buhagiar is the second straight Spartan to earn the WAC's Defensive Player of the Week honor. Senior defensive end Travis Johnson earned the award last week.
Fales was a nominee for Offensive Player of the Week, which was won by Louisiana Tech quarterback Colby Cameron. Fales completed 27 of 34 passing for 370 yards and three touchdowns.
Punter Harrison Waid was nominated for Special Teams Player of the Week, which went to UTSA kick returner Kenny Harrison. Waid averaged 55.0 yards on his four punts, including a long of 63.
