Here are the warning signs of suicide and what to do if you see them.

WARNING SIGNS

  • Talking about wanting to die.

  • Looking for a way to kill oneself

  • Talking about feelings of hopelessness and having no purpose

  • Talking about feelings of being trapped or in unbearable pain

  • An increase in the use of alcohol or drugs

  • Anxious, agitated or reckless behavior

  • Sleeping too little or sleeping too much

  • Withdrawing into a feeling of isolation

  • Expressing rage, thoughts of revenge and extreme mood swings

    WHAT TO DO

  • Do not leave the person alone

  • Remove any firearms, alcohol, drugs or sharp objects that could be used in a suicide attempt

  • Call the U.S. National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255)

  • Take the person to an emergency room or seek help from a medial or mental health professional
