Eagles play for Division II title

Quarterback Mike Protheroe, left, and the Clayton Valley Charter football team are headed to the North Coast Section Division II championship game. The top-seed Eagles will face No. 2 Rancho Cotate-Rohnert Park (12-0) at 7 p.m. on Nov. 30 at Diablo Valley College for the section title. The Eagles beat crosstown rival Concord on Nov. 23 for the second time this year for its 11th consecutive win of the season and a berth in the final. Clayton Valley pulled away after halftime of the semifinal game to win 49-22. Mike Protheroe and his older brother, Joe, accounted for six of Clayton Valley's seven touchdowns. Joe Protheroe continued his productive season at running back with 261 rushing yards.
