Spartans win hoops title

  • Elliott Pitts and the De La Salle High boys basketball team captured the IHoop Gear Division of the MaxPreps Holiday Classic by beating Patriot-Riverside 56-41 on Dec. 29. Pitts led the Spartans with 20 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals in the championship win. De La Salle also beat Eastlake-Chula Vista, Cabrillo-Lompoc and Shadow Hills-Indio by holding each squad to under 30 points.

    Cougars win two at Tri-Valley

  • The Carondelet High girls soccer team recovered from a slow start to the season to win its final two games of the Tri-Valley Classic Invitational Division. The Cougars beat James Logan 1-0 on an Alyssa Herwatt goal and got past Monte Vista 1-0 on Brooke Cilley's score.

    Falcons unbeaten at Tri-Valley

  • The College Park High girls soccer team went undefeated in the Tri-Valley Classic's Gold Division Dec. 27-28. The Falcons beat Liberty 2-0, topped Freedom 1-0, and tied Dublin 1-1.

    Ewing leads title run

  • Ashley Ewing scored 24 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and tallied six assists to lead the Campolindo High girls basketball team over Burlingame 54-47 for the West Coast Jamboree Emerald Division title on Dec. 29. Ewing was named the division's MVP while teammate Laura Hickey (18 points, seven rebounds) was also an all-tournament pick.

  • Clayton Valley at Berean Christian, girls basketball, Jan. 4, 7 p.m. -- Two possible contenders in the Diablo Valley Athletic League get together for an early season showdown.

  • Clayton Valley at De La Salle, boys soccer, Jan. 5, 6 p.m. -- The two Concord squads will face off in a nonleague contest before leauge play resumes.

  • Acalanes at Dublin, boys basketball, Jan. 7, 7 p.m. -- The Dons will face a tough Dublin squad as Diablo Foothill Athletic League action gets underway.

  • Alhambra at Dougherty Valley, boys basketball, Jan. 7, 7 p.m. -- The Bulldogs enter their DFAL opener against the Wildcats with a 7-5 record.

  • Elliott Pitts, De La Salle boys basketball -- The Arizona-bound senior had 20 points, 11 rebounds and three assists to lead the Spartans past Patriot-Riverside 56-41 for the IHoop Gear Division title at the MaxPreps Holiday Classic.

  • Natalie Romeo, Carondelet girls basketball -- Romeo's 32 points, six assists and six steals powered the Cougars past Sacramento 90-58 in the West Coast Jamboree Platinum Division semifinals on Dec. 29.

  • Ashley Ewing, Campolindo girls basketball -- Ewing was named Emerald Division MVP after her double-double (24 points, 13 rebounds) in a 54-47 win over Burlingame in the West Coast Jamboree on Dec. 29.

  • Carly Gill, Miramonte girls basketball -- Gill was named MVP of the Diamond Division of the West Coast Jamboree after scoring 19 points to go with three assists and three steals in a 72-57 title game win over Salesian on Dec. 29.

  • Jeffery Mitchell, College Park boys basketball -- He was an all-tournament selection at the Roy Ghiggeri Invitational after scoring 20 points in a 74-73 overtime win over Bethel in the third place game.

  • Victoria Peleras, College Park girls basketball -- The junior guard scored 20 points to lift the Falcons to an opening round win over Anderson 62-44 in the West Coast Jamboree Jade Division.

  • Lewis Schoenberg, Las Lomas boys basketball -- The junior helped the Knights beat Richmond 71-51 on Dec. 28 by scoring 12 points to go along with five assists and four rebounds.

  • Madi West, Berean Christian girls basketball -- West had several strong games at the West Coast Jamboree, including a 23-point effort in a 42-34 opening round Onyx Division win over Mission Prep on Dec. 27.
