Whistle-stop Transcript

Carol and Edward Combs of Clayton visit the Golden Spike National Historic Site in Promontory Summit, Utah -- in front of Locomotive #119 -- where they also caught up with the community news in the Concord Transcript. They were returning from a granddaughter's wedding in Omaha, Neb., and visiting grandchildren in Coon Rapids, Minn., in June. The National Park Service commemorates the completion of the nation's first transcontinental railroad in 1869 at that site when the Union Pacific and Central Pacific rail lines met. There are locomotive steam demonstrations and re-enactments of the Last Spike ceremony.

It doesn't matter if your time away is spent across the Bay or across the country -- remember to pack the Transcript to keep up with news of the community, and then show your neighbors where you have been.
