Romeo leads Cougars

  • A 15-point fourth quarter by junior Natalie Romeo sparked the Carondelet High basketball team to a 66-58 win over Berkeley at the Campolindo Shootout on Jan. 26. Romeo scored 29 points total for the Cougars, including four 3-pointers, and was 9 of 9 from the free throw line. The Cougars improved to 16-3 overall with the big nonleague victory.

    'Dogs net DFAL win

  • The Alhambra High girls basketball team earned its first Diablo Foothill Athletic League win of the year by beating Las Lomas 53-49 on Jan. 22. Shelby Clemons led the Bulldogs with 17 points while Helene Hollidge added 13. The Bulldogs nearly earned another league win later in the week, but ended up falling to Acalanes 41-39.

    Eagles announce coaching changes

  • Berean Christian High made two noteworthy coaching changes recently. Former NFL running back James Hodgins will take over as head football coach for Mark Barcelon. Longtime volleyball coach Jim Simonson also announced his retirement. Simonson, who will be replaced by Eddie Chang, retires with 604 career wins in stints at Berean Christian and Campolindo.
