YVHS Music boosters planning rummage sale
Members of the Ygnacio Valley High School Instrumental Music Boosters will hold their annual rummage sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 2, at the school, 755 Oak Grove Road, Concord.
A variety of items will be available including household goods, clothes, electronics, seasonal craft items books and more. The sale will fund travel expenses for all instrumental music students at Ygnacio Valley.

Mountain View PFC is offering scholarships
The Mountain View Elementary School Parent/Faculty Club is offering its annual $500 scholarship to any student who attended Mountain View, completing at least the fifth grade, and upon graduation from high school plans to attend a community or four-year college/university.
Students should submit their applications through March 15 of their senior year.
Applications are available at the Mountain View office, 1705 Thornwood Drive, Concord.

Crab feed is to benefit the Concord High choir
A Concord High School Choir fundraiser is planned from 6 to 10 p.m. March 2, at Centre Concord, 5298 Clayton Road, Concord.
There will be dancing, a raffle and silent auction. Dinner includes crab, pasta, salad, bread, coffee. A no-host bar offers beer, wine, and soda.
Tickets are $45 each or $400 for a table of 10. No tickets are sold at the door.

CVCHS athletic boosters host annual crab feed
The Clayton Valley Charter High School Athletic Booster Club will host it's 19th annual Crab Feed at 6 p.m. March 16, at Centre Concord, 5298 Clayton Road, Concord.
Proceeds will benefit all sports programs at Clayton Valley Charter High School.
Dinner includes fresh Dungeness crab, pasta, Caesar salad, garlic bread and refreshments.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. A no host bar will feature beer, wine and signature cocktails. Tickets are $50 per person, and can be purchased at www.cvhsboosters.org.
Swing dance to benefit YVHS music students
Ygnacio Valley Instrumental Music Boosters will host a swing dance 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 15, at Ygnacio Valley High School, 755 Oak Grove Road, Concord.
Live entertainment will be provided by the jazz band. Desserts and drinks will be available for purchase.
Proceeds will benefit all instrumental music students at Ygnacio Valley.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

County science fair sends out call for judges
The organizers of the Contra Costa County Science and Engineering Fair are looking for volunteer judges 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 22.
Judges will be welcomed with breakfast and an orientation at 7 a.m. A commitment of eight hours includes morning review of poster boards and afternoon interviews with students.
A complimentary lunch is provided.
Judges are needed to ensure the science fair projects expected to be submitted by middle and high school students this year have an opportunity to be reviewed by community members, including business and industry.
Judges will review students entries in six categories: math/computer sciences; biological, including biochemistry, microbiology, zoology, botany, medicine and health; physical science, including chemistry, earth and space, and physics; behavioral/social sciences, including gerontology; environmental sciences; and engineering. Student levels are junior -- grades 7-8; and senior -- grades 9-12.
The Contra Costa County 2013 Science and Engineering Fair will be held March 21-23, at Los Medanos College, 2700 E. Leland Road in Pittsburg.

AHS Arts Foundation fundraiser at Marty O's
The Alhambra High School Arts Foundation is having a fundraiser Feb. 25 and Feb. 27, to benefit art, drama and music classes.
The fundraiser takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, and Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Marty O's Pizzeria, 802 Main St., in Martinez.
Ten percent of all food purchases will be donated to support the school's artists, actors and musicians.
Two opportunities to Dine Out for Education
The Foundation for Pleasant Hill Education is hosting two Dine Out for Education events on Tuesdays, Feb. 26 and March 5.
On Feb. 26, residents can present a Dine Out flier (found at www.fphe.org) at DeVino's Pizza and Pasta, 2221 Morello Ave., Pleasant Hill from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
On March 5, the flier can be presented from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Magoo's Grill, 1250 Contra Costa Blvd., in Pleasant Hill.
At both events, a percentage of sales will benefit Pleasant Hill schools. The Dine Out event and flier applies to lunch, dinner and takeout.

High school students can 'Direct Change'
Student filmmakers throughout California are invited to "Direct Change" by submitting videos for a statewide contest to prevent suicide and change minds about mental illness.
The contest is part of statewide efforts to prevent suicide, reduce stigma and discrimination related to mental illness, and to promote the mental health and wellness of students.
These initiatives are funded by the Mental Health Services Act (Prop. 63) and administered by the California Mental Health Services Authority, an organization of county governments working to improve mental health outcomes for individuals, families and communities.
Students can download an entry form at www.DirectingChange.org before submitting their PSA. For each Intent to Direct form that is submitted, the student's school is entered for a chance to win a suicide prevention program.
Entry deadline is midnight March 1.
