The Teamsters have filed an unfair labor practices complaint against the Mt. Diablo school district after an attorney told union representatives they couldn't distribute fliers outside district headquarters.
Deb Cooksey, an attorney for the district, told the Teamsters earlier this week that it would permissible for Local One representatives to distribute fliers, but not the Teamsters, according to a news release from Teamsters Local 856.
The Teamsters allege that this showed favoritism toward one union over another in violation of California's Education Employment Relations Act. But Cooksey said Thursday that only unions certified by the Public Employee Relations Board to represent district employees are allowed to distribute fliers on district property.
Local One currently represents some district maintenance and clerical employees and is certified by the board. The Teamsters do not currently represent any district employees.
