  • At the Clayton Community Library, Story Time programs are free.

    Patty Cakes Story Time: 11-11:20 a.m. Tuesdays through May 14. For children up to 3 years old attending with a caregiver, the program features songs, rhymes and stories with an aim to early literacy.

    Picture Book Time: 11-11:30 a.m. Thursdays through May 16. Children 3-5 years old may attend without a caregiver.

    Paws to Read: 4 p.m. or 4:35 p.m. April 9. Children in grades 1-5, who need encouragement to read, can sign up to read aloud to a dog. The program is not to teach dog safety or overcome fear of dogs. Participation is very limited and registration by a parent is required.

    Book Buddies: 1-2 p.m. Wednesdays. A book buddy volunteer reader is in the library to read stories to children of all ages.

    Pension Maximization: 6:30-8 p.m. April 24. Betty Lou Moglen will discuss the pension dilemma -- the choice about distribution and survivor benefits -- taking a lesser amount for the trade-off of granting a spouse continued benefits. Registration is required by midnight April 23.

    Clayton Library Book Club: 7-9 p.m. the second Mondays, and open to anyone interested. On April 8, Sunny Solomon leads the discussion of "Claude & Camille" by Stephanie Cowell.

    Baby & Toddler Story Time: 10:15-10:35 a.m. and 11:15-11:35 a.m. Tuesdays. It is for children ages 0-3½ attending with a caregiver and features short picture books, songs and bounces.

    Preschool Story Time: 10:30-11 a.m. Wednesdays through April 3, is for children 3-5 and features stories and songs.

    Bilingual Story Time: 1:30-2 p.m. Mondays through June 3 (no sessions April 15, 22, May 27). Children ages 0-5 can listen to stories and songs in English and Spanish.

    LEGO & Listen: 7 p.m. April 22. Kids ages 6-12 can build with Lego blocks while listening to a recorded book. Space is limited and registration is required the day before the program.

    Uncle Jer's Traveling Bee Show: 7-8 p.m. April 8. Kids ages 5-11 can taste some honey, peek inside a real beehive and laugh at puppets as part of the library's Summer Reading Festival.

    All Ears Reading Insiders Group: 2-3 p.m. April 10. Adults with developmental disabilities are invited to practice their reading skills to gentle and patient listeners -- dogs. In partnership with ARF, dog teams will be available for a short one-on-one reading session. Participants should sign up at the door upon arrival.

    Concord Mystery Book Club: 2:30 p.m. the second Sunday of the month, and mystery lovers are invited to join the group. On April 14, the discussion will be on "The Tomb of Zeus," by Barbara Cleverly.

    Knitting and crochet group: 1:15-4:45 p.m. April 7. Knitters and crocheters of all levels are welcome. Drop in anytime to knit, crochet and network. Free knitting instruction during first half of class by Melanie Mintz, and free crocheting help the second half of class by Chris Curtiss. Some scrap yarn provided, but bring your own needles or hook.

    Computer Tutoring: 2-3 p.m. and 3-4 p.m. Saturdays. Adults can get one-on-one help with basic computer instruction -- setting up an email account, searching the Internet, formatting a Word document and beginning Excel skills.

    Small claims adviser workshop: 5:30-8 p.m. the second Thursday of the month, presented by the Contra Costa County Superior Court. The program is free and open to everyone. No registration, but latecomers will not be admitted due to the large amount of information to be covered.
