Carondelet earns title

  • Led by Sabby Virtusio's 1-over 73, the Carondelet High girls golf team edged Monte Vista for the East Bay Athletic League team championship on Oct. 14 at Las Positas Golf Course. Virtusio earned medalist honors with her strong round. The Cougars earned an automatic berth to the North Coast Section Division I tournament of champions on Oct. 28 at the Peacock Gap Country Club in San Rafael.

    Concord wins DVAL golf championship

  • The Concord High girls golf team claimed the Diablo Valley Athletic League title with a 10-stroke win over Clayton Valley at the league championship tournament on Oct. 14 at Boundary Oaks. Erika Berg led Concord by tying for first place with a round of 86. Concord now advances to the NCS Division I tournament of champions.

    Falcons get DVAL win

  • A running game that piled up 502 rushing yards powered the College Park High football team past Mt. Diablo 47-7 on Oct. 18. Sophomore Ray Jackson led three Falcons with at least 100 rushing yards, piling up 171 and a touchdown. Quarterback Dimitri Salido had 101 rushing yards, including touchdown runs of 50, 7 and 5 yards. Trevor Sprung's 93-yard touchdown run opened the scoring in the first quarter.

    Cougars stay perfect

  • The Campolindo High football team stayed unbeaten on the year with a 35-20 victory over Las Lomas in a battle for sole possession of first place in the Diablo Foothill Athletic League on Oct. 18. Nick Fadelli scored three touchdowns while Andrew Zolintakis completed 11 of 18 passes for 210 yards and three scores. Las Lomas scored first, but the Cougars (7-0, 3-0 DFAL) responded with three straight touchdown drives to take a 21-7 lead into halftime.

    CV baseball players make commitments

  • The Diablo Valley Athletic League is brimming with college baseball prospects this year, and Clayton Valley Charter has a pair of seniors who recently committed. Outfielder/pitcher Grant Meylan is headed to Santa Clara and first baseman/pitcher Garrett Nelson is going to Long Beach State.

  • Alhambra at Campolindo, football, Oct. 25, 7 p.m. -- The Bulldogs will attempt to knock off the undefeated Cougars in this DFAL game.

  • Northgate at Clayton Valley, girls volleyball, Oct. 24, 7 p.m. -- Northgate's perfect DVAL record will be on the line when it faces the Eagles.

  • Concord vs. College Park, football, Oct. 25, 7 p.m. -- The Minutemen will play the Falcons at Diablo Valley College, hoping to keep their DVAL record unblemished.

    Stars of the week

  • Erika Berg, Concord girls golf -- Berg tied for medalist honors with Clayton Valley Charter's Rachel DeLong at the DVAL championships as each shot an 86 on the par 72 Boundary Oaks course. Berg's round helped Concord win the team title.

  • Blair Hurlock, De La Salle boys cross country -- The senior was the top finisher at the EBAL Center meet on Oct. 16, breaking the Newhall Park course record in the process. Hurlock's time was 14:59 on the 3-mile course.

  • Mason Knight, Concord football -- The junior receiver had nine catches for 192 yards and three touchdowns as the Minutemen handed Northgate its first loss of the season 30-28 on Oct. 18. Two of Knight's touchdown catches came in the fourth quarter.

  • Sabby Virtusio, Carondelet girls golf -- Virtusio earned medalist honors at the EBAL golf championships on Oct. 14, firing a 1-over 73 at the Las Positas Golf Course to help the Cougars win the team title.
