CONCORD -- The Mt. Diablo school district and teachers' union agreed Tuesday to declare impasse in contract negotiations.
The Mt. Diablo Education Association teachers union is seeking a 7 percent salary increase plus Kaiser medical benefits at the single rate. The district offered a 3 percent pay boost with no increased benefits.
Now, both sides will agree to a mediator and that person will review the district's budget and each proposal, said union President Guy Moore. Although face-to-face negotiations will cease, the mediator can act as a go-between, Moore said.
Superintendent Nellie Meyer said both sides had additional conversations before declaring impasse, but no new official offers were made.
