Remembering the old-style Cheese Zombies made popular beginning in the 1960s by a baker in the Mt. Diablo School District brought a crowd out to PattyĆ­s Original Cheese Zombies to get a taste of the old-school doughy, cheesy version, as well as meat- and pizza-stuffed zombies. Patty May and her son, Robert May, opened the eatery last fall in Dana Plaza, and celebrated with a grand opening Jan. 25. Patty May has worked in school district food services for more than 15 years, and the idea for bringing back the Cheese Zombies germinated for six months before she and her son opened the business.
