Concord wins OT thriller

  • Concord High's boys basketball team needed a comeback in the final minutes of regulation then overtime to get past Las Lomas 70-62 in the North Coast Section Division II quarterfinals on Feb. 28. Siaan Rojas had 20 points and 10 rebounds for No. 4 Concord. Daniel Solis had 17 points and Spencer Clark added 12 points and 12 rebounds. Royce Henry led Las Lomas with 21 points. The Minutemen are the only boys team from the Diablo Valley Athletic League still alive in the basketball playoffs.

    Falcons fall in NCS semis

  • The College Park High girls soccer team had its stellar season come to a close with a 1-0 loss to Monte Vista in the North Coast Section Division I semifinals on Feb. 27. The Falcons gave the eventual champions a strong battle, but couldn't break through offensively. The defeat snapped a 20-game winning streak for College Park, which finished the year 23-4 overall.

    Campo wins rubber match

  • Chris Hansen erupted for 22 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and contributed a key putback with under a minute to go to help the host Campolindo High boys basketball team end Miramonte's spirited comeback attempt with a 72-65 win in the North Coast Section Division III quarterfinals on Feb. 28. Matt O'Reilly added 15 points and Andrew Zolintakis had 14 for the Cougars, which split its regular-season series with the rival Matadors. Drew Anderson led Miramonte with 18 points and 14 rebounds.

  • NCS championships, boys and girls basketball, March 7, 6 and 8 p.m. -- Saint Mary's College hosts the NCS Division I championships for another year with the girls tipping off a 6 p.m. and the boys following at 8 p.m.

  • CIF state championships, boys wrestling, March 7-8, all day -- The top three finishers in each weight class from last week's North Coast Section championships will compete at the state meet at Bakersfield's Rabobank Arena.

  • California at Campolindo, baseball, March 8, 11 a.m. -- The Cougars, who have won four straight NCS Division II titles, continue a tough nonleague schedule against the visiting Grizzlies.

  • NorCal selections, basketball, March 9, Time TBA -- The brackets for the Northern California regional tournament will be revealed, including the anticipated boys and girls Open Division.

  • Willie Amen, Las Lomas boys wrestling -- Amen qualified for the state tournament by advancing to the 195-pound finals at the NCS championships on March 1. He lost to James Logan's Clayton Hartwell to take second place.

  • Gabrielle Brown, Las Lomas girls soccer -- Brown scored both of the Knights' goals when they upset top-seeded Miramonte 2-1 in the NCS Division II semifinals on Feb. 26.

  • Donovin Guerrero and Nathan Cervantes, De La Salle wrestling -- Guerrero (106 pounds) and Cervantes (132 pounds) each won individual titles at the NCS championships on March 1 as the Spartans took third as a team.

  • Chris Hansen, Campolindo boys basketball -- The junior forward's monster effort of 22 points and 16 rebounds powered the Cougars to a NCS Division III quarterfinal win over Miramonte, 72-65.

  • Brooke Panfili, Campolindo girls basketball -- The freshman guard poured in 20 points to lead the Cougars to a 54-49 win over visiting Petaluma in the NCS Division III quarterfinals and clinch a spot in the NorCal playoffs.
