An audience listens as the Concord High School Minuteman Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Gary Coartney, perform in the courtyard in front of the City Council chamber before the March 11 meeting. The ensemble concluded its performance with The Dave Brubeck Quartet classic, "Take Five." The council approved naming the jazz tune Concord's "most treasured song," in honor of Brubeck, who was born in Concord in 1920. Concord Boulevard Neighborhood Park was renamed for Brubeck in 2006. His connection to the park started in the early 1970s with his and many other world-famous jazz artists' participation in the Concord Jazz Festival held there. That contributed to the impetus for building the Concord Pavilion, which opened in 1975.

Brubeck died Dec. 5, 2012, in Norwalk, Conn., one day before his 92nd birthday.
