CONCORD -- A Concord woman who drove into a power pole Wednesday night was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.
The wreck happened on Roslyn Drive just off Clayton Road around 9:30 p.m., Concord police Lt. Ivan Menchaca said. The woman, 19-year-old Mikaella Banuelos, crashed into a PG&E pole, then tried to run away, Menchaca said.
Police caught up to her near El Monte Elementary School, a short distance away.
PG&E crews assessed the damage to the pole and found the pole was cracked. While the pole could have remained standing upright without any issues, crews decided as an extra safety measure to add in reinforcements, spokeswoman Tamar Sarkissian said. The pole will be replaced within a few days.
The crash did not cause any power outages.
